Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract
Ginkgo biloba
Composition: Contains glavonone glycosides, terpene lactones, bilobalide.
Properties: Improvement of hypoxic tolerance (especially cerebral tissue). Inhibits development of cerebral edema and accelerates regression of cerebral edema. Reduces retinal edema. Increased memory and learning capacity. Improves blood flow in areas of microcirculation. Inactivates oxygen free radicals due to flavonoids. Antagonizes the platelet-activating factors due to the ginkgolides. Neuroprotective effects due to ginkgolides A and B and bilobalide.
Use:
Treatment of disease associated with disturbed performance of the brain: Symptomatic treatment of memory and concentration deficits, depression, dizziness, tinnitus, headache, and dementia syndromes (primary degenerative, vascular, and mixed dementia)
Improvement of pain-free walking distance associated with peripheral arterial occlusive disease.
Treatment of vertigo and tinnitus of vascular origin.
Duration of use: Treatment of dementia depends upon severity of symptoms and should extend at least 8 weeks in chronic illness; but, should reevaluate therapy if using longer than 3 months. Improvement of ambulatory range requires administration for at least 6 weeks. With vertigo or tinnitus, there is no benefit from administration for more than 6-8 weeks.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity.
Side Effects: Gastrointestinal upset. Headaches. Allergic skin reactions.
