Bromelain
Proteolytic enzyme of Ananas comosus
Composition: The proteolytic enzymes of the pineapple fruit.
Properties: High oral doseages can have an edema-inhibiting effect.
It may prolong prothrombin and bleeding time and inhibit platelet aggregation.
Use: Postoperative or post-traumatic conditions of swelling.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to bromelain.
Side Effects: Gastric disturbances. Diarrhea. Allergic reactions.
Cautions: There may be an increased bleeding tendency if used in combination with
anticoagulants. The plasma and urine levels of tetracycline may be increased with simultaneous intake.
